South African baritone Jacques Imbrailo completed a BA Law degree and a BMus degree at the Potchefstroom University in South Africa in 2002, followed by post-graduate opera studies at the RCM under Ryland Davies. Jacques completed his studies with the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2008 and made his Royal Opera House debut in December 2006 as Morales in Bizet’s Carmen. Opera repertoire includes Tarquinius/The Rape of Lucretia and Guglielmo/Cosí fan tutte (the later he sang for his U.S debut at Opera Colorado), Mercutio/Roméo et Juliette (British Youth Opera), Scythian/Iphigénie en Tauride, Demetrius/A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Morales/Carmen, all for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Oratorio performances include Bach’s St John Passion, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem and Durufle’s Requiem amongst others. This season, Jacques will sing Guglielmo/Cosi fan tutte (Glyndebourne Touring Opera and Opera North), Schaunard/La Boheme (Royal Opera House) and the title role of Billy Budd in Michael Grandage’s new production at the Glyndebourne Festival. This is immediately followed by The Count in Le nozze de Figaro for the Royal Opera House.
LINBURY THEATRE, ROYAL OPERA HOUSE
Bow St, Covent Garden, WC2E 9DD
The Royal Opera House is a stunning building located in the heart of Covent Garden.
One of the Royal Opera House's intimate venues, the Linbury Studio Theatre offers
a space for experimental and independent dance and music companies. With a seating
capacity of just over 400, the studio is well suited to its programme of educational
projects, lunchtime concerts and more risqué works. Don't expect everything here
to be by unknowns, however. With Michael Berkeley and Ian McEwan premiering their
operetta here in 2008, it's worth checking the listings for big names.
